Evolution Chamber
This seems like a powerful board buff for the Zerg. It’s enough for two Zerg units to be in play for Evolution Chamber to represent stats that are well above the curve for 2 mana. Zerglings are just insane with Chamber, as it is so easy to throw them into the board and instantly buff them. It also makes them extremely dangerous on turn 1, especially when going first.
The nice thing about Evolution Chamber is that it also buffs other minions. The Zerg package is not big enough to fill an entire deck, so we’ll be running other minions too. Though the buff is much more modest in this case, it makes it easier to mix Zerg inside a shell of a token-style deck that may run cards like R.C. Rampage.
Evolution Chamber establishes the Hunter class as the most aggressive of the Zerg.
Score: 4
Roach
Roach gives us both card advantage and pressure. It represents two minions in one card, if we draw it after the mulligan. It is a 2 mana 3/4 when activated by the presence of another Zerg, which seems like an easy condition to trigger when we have Zerglings.
A 2 mana 3/4 is just plain good. Slapping both copies on turn 4 is a realistic possibility too. Roach represents a lot of early game pressure and swarming potential. Its high health makes it likely to survive a turn, allowing us to further leverage Zerg synergies in our favor, such as Evolution Chamber or Hydralisk.
Score: 3
Hydralisk
Hydralisk shoots 2 damage missiles at random enemies, so it can go face. At its baseline, it shoots one missile, so if we have two other Zerg minions in play, it shoots three. That seems like a lot of damage packaged inside a 3-drop. A single Zergling played alongside Hydralisk turns it into a respectable board control tool and face damage threat. If we manage to stick more Zerg in play, it becomes a Marrow Manipulator level of nuke.
The stats aren’t the best for a 3-drop, but they are very aggressive. If Hydralisk helps us clear the board, the opponent will have to use a resource from hand to deal with its 4 attack. That is if we even need it to attack, as its damage potential is already high upon entering play.
Score: 3
Final Thoughts: A Token Hunter deck with a Zerg package sounds like a very enticing possibility, one that we suspect you are likely to encounter in the first couple of days of the mini-set. All three cards here encourage pure aggression.
